I picked up this book, Draw and Paint Super Cute Animals and instantly fell in love with the incredible cute watercolor illustrations .. puppies, kitten, bunnies Oh My! You sold me on the cover alone!

The introduction starts off with some great tips and tricks on what type of medium to sue (pencil, paint, etc.) for different techniques, color palettes and some shading and color techniques. Very informative. It gives you some step by step techniques for the basic shapes and working on a grid, filing in the shapes and drawing textures, fur, etc.

But that's where the step by step kind of stops for me. It goes on to show each animal, but it's really these steps:

1. Step One. Draw the complete outline of the animal and it's surroundings.
2. Step Two. Shade it in like a professional artist and it basically is done
3. Step Three. Add in professional artist details and colors a little darker.
4. Step Four. Add in more professional details and colors a little bit darker still.

I can draw... kinda. I went to art school. I'm not fantastic, but I have the fundamentals. I couldn't really do much past step one. A step by step for each one getting the shapes and drawing on the page would be fantastic, not just showing what each layer of colored in looks like.

The beginning is great - the illustrations are incredible. But it's basically for really accomplished artists to hone their craft of cute animal illustration. Or is you are a really good copier :)
