Good Fantasy (If a bit Simplistic and Trope-y)

Dragonslayer, by Duncan M. Hamilton, is a story of a old warrior seeking redemption, a woman with newfound magical powers coming to terms with who she is, political intrigue and betrayal, a dangerous dragon lurking...

...oh, you have read that one before? So have I, and is pretty much what this book is. It is somewhat trope-y. That is not to say I did not like Dragonslayer - I liked it a lot. I liked it so much I gave it 4 stars. The story was interesting, I as were the characters and the setting. The one unique piece of this book was that we get to hear the dragon's point of view, which is rare.

I found it to be lacking depth, though. We get glimpses of the history of this world, but not much. Same for the characters, who also, by they way, are WAY too trusting. The storyline was very simplistic, which can sometimes be a good thing. You also will not find any strong female characters in this book - something which many fantasy books are lacking.

Despite its flaws, Dragonslayer is a good book. If you like fantasy, I recommend it - particularly if you are looking for something lighter.
