This book does some things that I thought were really cool. I loved that I actually got to read from the dragon's perspective, especially since the dragon was not any type of animal familiar or anything. Gil also developed remarkably as a character, and I found all the fight/combat scenes really interesting. Solene is a super compelling character as well.
My biggest issue is that I was just kind of bored. The pacing was odd because some of it was really action-packed and fast-paced, but other parts of it were really slow because it was a lot of journeying back and forth and getting drunk.
It was also just generally lacking backstory. A lot of things were mentioned but never fully explained.
