It sounds like a good dragon slaying hero type of book. It looks like it has all the required ingredients - a king, a slayer, mages... So far it also seems to meet the all male hero cast requirement too, but the summary mentions a witch, so hopefully she'll be interesting enough to fill the void left by the underrepresented other 50% of the human population.
