The book cover is extremely generic and wouldn’t stand out to me at a book store. The description, even down to the names, has a bit of a tropey feel, like this will be a fan fiction combining several popular fantasy worlds.
I LOVED the actual story in the excerpt. It was executed in an engaging and unique way that didn’t feel like a redo of other fantasy I’ve read. I’d need to read more to see whether the author is able to sustain this, however. The story has potential to be a breakthrough in the genre, or it could fall flat and have a predictable plot.
