Too many plot twists

The cover and description of the book drew me in—I love a good sibling drama combined with an unreliable narrator. At the start, Alexa and Beth’s personalities were well developed foils and their interactions as jealous sisters rang true. However, this book quickly went off the rails without explaining a lot of the past that leads to conflict within the book. First: not clear if they were actually conjoined twins until the end, and that seems like a huge thing to not dive into. How did it impact their lives before one sister tried to separate from the other? Did they have a good relationship aside from wanting to be their own people? Second: what was in their diary/notebook that was so damning? I read to the end and still don’t know! I also feel like this book demonized mental illness which was unnecessary to drive the plot…and included some suicidal ideation that was really unnecessary. I enjoyed the actual writing, just did not understand all of the loose or unnecessary ends in the plot.
