I have enjoyed Linda LaPlante in the past and was really looking forward to reading this. I was also looking forward to Tennison's journey further in the male dominant Flying Squad. There was more tension and action there in the end (I think the confrontation between her and Katie was the most engaging moment) than there was as Tennison went about solving the robbery of a bank truck. The addition of the deaf witness was a nice touch and I found myself more interested in the information on she and her sister's background than in the storyline around the criminals. This was not a bad book, it just wasn't a 'great' book....it felt more like I was getting a nuts and bolts, "this is how it really works" look at detective work. Would have liked to seen more information on the criminals' activities perhaps.
