I find Jane Tennison to be a fascinating character and I absolutely love a thriller that has to be solved without modern technology. I like to be absorbed in the setting but Lydia La Plante spends SO MUCH TIME on describing every little detail that could be better used somewhere else. I don't need to know a background character has blue pants when it's not pertinent to the story!
