WOW What a ride
I read this book over the course of a couple of days. It was the perfect mood boost for the current state of the world.
It was exactly what you'd expect from a dystopian novel about super soldier mercenary librarians... if you have any expectations for that. It plays to the genre well, while still pulling off brilliant twists and subverting expectations.
I loved the low-key (and high-key!) representation throughout the book without an ounce of discrimination or other bigotry. I could read a whole book about Rowan, thank you very much, but that's neither here nor there.
All in all, it was a fun romp through post-apocalyptic southern US. It's an easy read, and I'm looking forward to the rest of the books in the series.
I was given a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
