La Cachette, Louisiana is home to seventeen year old Grey, even if she is only there during summers. For her, La Cachette is a lifeline to her deceased mother, her grandmother Honey ,and her best friends. As she heads back to La Cachette, she knows she has her work cut out for her as she tries to uncover the truth behind her twin flame, Elora's, disappearance. Grey is one of the Summer Children - a group of kids born during the summer months who have a strong connection to each other, their own special powers and some very dark secrets. Grey is the only one who has yet to come into her abilities and as Elora's twin (by birth date, not by blood) she is desperate to find out what happened to her best friend after getting into a fight the summer before. Will she figure out the reason for the rift in the friendship? Is she going crazy or is seeing things a part of her power? In a town full of psychics, who is hiding the biggest secret of all?

Let's start off with the cover. It is such a stunning and beautiful cover that I dare say is now probably one of the prettiest books I have on my shelves. Once you finish tearing your eyes away from the cover to the book itself you find a first line that leaves you wanting to know what happens next. I enjoyed getting some backstory of several characters and the Psychic Capital of the World- La Cachette. This, along with the speech and dialogue each character has, helped me picture this southern town and the inhabitants so much more. I liked the character of Grey and was happy to see her get some answers, but I think Evie - the youngest member of the Summer kids - was my favorite. I think this was a great debut by the author and am curious to see what else she has in mind for future books.

While the writing itself was spot on and each character had a voice and tone that made it all very real, I feel like there was some spots towards the beginning/middle that dragged a bit. Numerology was a strong point at the start of the book with it mentioning that there was 10 kids in all so I thought I would be getting more from the Summer Kids instead of just Grey or the number explanations would reveal something huge, but it was not so. Grey basically uncovers the truth on her own with little assistance from her best friends and next to none from the adults. I wish I could have learned more about each of their powers and felt that this could have helped the story along as well as really showcase their friendship. I actually was surprised at then ending and the truth that is revealed but still felt that something was missing. I'd say it is worth a read for anyone who likes a bit of everything in a book as it does have romance, paranormal things, mystery, and suspense.
