So I have to admit, I was immediately hooked by this one, and after reading the first impression here on Bookish First, I went out and bought it once it became available, and I was not disappointed. The characters were well-rounded, and I liked how they each had their own version of magic. I especially liked Zale and they way he and his gift was described. I felt for Grey and was caught up in her journey.

I also loved the setting. The swampy bayou town of Louisiana was almost like a character itself. I always feel a connection to books with tiny towns where everyone knows everyone, because I grew up in a similar place and know how that can be.

The book was fast-paced, the tension building perfectly, all the way up to the end, and the end itself was also satisfying. I read this book in two sittings because it was just one of those books you can hardly put down.

If you like fast - paced, secrety, teen thrillers, you like this one.
