Immersive and atmospheric, Dark and Shallow Lies had me hooked from the first sentence.

This story plants us in an isolated Louisiana town surrounded by swamp and inhabited by generations of people with a variety of psychic powers. Everyone here knows each other, and they should know everything about each other. Except some of them have been keeping dangerous secrets. And people are disappearing.

I loved everything about this book. It’s creepy, intense, and unexpectedly emotional.

The writing is crisp and taunt. No wasted words or lulls in activity. I was thoroughly engaged every step of the way.

The characters are unique and complex, and like real people, sometimes surprise us in good and bad ways.

I was never a big YA reader before, but I have to say this genre is stomping all over the recent adult market.

Absolutely one of the best debut novels I've read.
