I love the vivid setting, but the plot and characters are a bit disappointing

The setting of La Cachette was well written and realistic. I loved it, it was like I myself was perusing the town's wonders. However, the plot was a bit underwhelming. I expected it to be more magic-related and darker than this rather lighthearted mystery. The character development was also lacking as some, like Zale, didn't fit in and were rather unnecessary in my opinion. The final reveal was pretty dramatic, although I had an inkling all along that Elora was dead.
The writing style is vivid and beautiful, and it's simple to read.
The cover is absolutely beautiful. Though I feel the plot is lacking, the cover is dark, mysterious, and elegant. It captures the vibe of the book well and draws you in from the very beginning. Though I wouldn't read this book again, I love the copy of it just because it looks so nice on my bookshelf! Would buy, 7/10.
