TW: death and grieving, violence

Thoughts: I confess I haven’t read a lot of YA thrillers/mysteries, however, the twist and turns in this book! By the time I was 2/3 in, I swear I was getting whiplash but in a good way! I was kept guessing right up until the end and on the edge of my seat.

The descriptions of the swamps and bayou were on point and so vivid, I felt like La Cachette was a place I’d been before.

There were characters to love, some to hate, and others you just weren’t even sure about, yet each was uniquely individual and written very well and easy to distinguish.

Overall, for a debut novel, it’s quite impressive! I finished this two days ago and I’m still thinking about it - which signifies to me a story well told.

I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys atmospheric reads, steady plots, a slow burn mystery/thriller, and even you are new to the genre, in my opinion, will draw you in quickly and hold you until the end!
