I don’t like contemporary books that much, but I did enjoy this one. It gave me the same impression as Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, which I binge read and loved immediately. I especially don’t like books where I constantly feel bad for the protagonist. This book was definitely one of those too, but I didn’t hate it even though Darius was pretty problematic. This is one of those books where the quality takes over and you might put personal reading preferences to pick it up. I liked the variety of character archetypes and overall cast in general. Sohrab was a likable character (more than Darius in my opinion) and I found the story to get better and better once he was added in. The piece before the end of this book broke my heart and I can’t wait for the book after this (Darius the Great Deserves Better).

I would recommend this books mainly to contemporary readers. However, it’s a great book in general for young readers who like to read about realistic characters. This especially comes into play if said person has read Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, which I did and I loved that book so much. I think this book is worth picking up for anybody.
