Darius is a fractional-Persian, his mom moved to the US from Iran and hasn't been back since.

As such he doesn't fit in with the white kids at his school, and will never meet the expectations of his Dad, whom he calls the uber-Mensch, with his stoic silences and tall skinny frame. Nope, Darius frequently battles to keep his emotions off his sleeves and one of the side effects of his medication is weight gain, so that's not so helpful.

But now his mom needs to go back to Iran, her father, Darius' grandfather is ill and not getting better. This will be Darius first trip to Iran and he's nervous about everything. Of course he won't fit in there either, he doesn't speak Farsi, buys fancy tea and has no idea what to expect.

What happens is everything. My favorite quote from this book made me cry, “Your place was empty before. But this is your family. You belong here.”
