Suicide isn't the only way you can lose someone to depression.

Darius the Great Is Not Okay was such a heartfelt, raw book. Darius, feeling alone and shut out by his family, goes on a family trip to Iran to visit his grandfather. There he meets Sohrab. We are able to see the effects Darius' depression has on his life (social and family) and it makes for some real raw emotion. Sohrab helps Darius in the best way possible and finally gives him a place to fit in. This contemporary is certainly a trigger book but Adib does it so well. He deals with the tough issues head on and we get to fully understand and see how Darius heals himself and navigates healing relationships with his family. I've cried at so many parts in this book I can't even count. As someone who's dealing with depression, the thoughts, the actions, and the feelings are all real. I've learned so much about the Persian culture and a lot more about tea. I'm also proud to say that I got every Star Trek and Lord of the Rings reference, go nerds!
