I received an e-ARC of this book through BookishFirst, but all opinions are my own.

Oh my goodness, this book!

In shot, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Sure it could have been fleshed out more and the characters could have been given more of a back story, but I enjoyed the story for what it is. After the first part of the book, it felt pretty fast paced and I enjoyed watching everything play out. There is quite a bit of action!

I enjoyed the multiple POV too, especially because you got to see what everyone was thinking and a bit of motivation behind their actions. Also, everyone was going into the trials with their own knowledge and set of skills, which we really got to see through the switch.

I guess this is a standalone, from the other reviews I have seen, but with that ending (and so many secrets still hidden) it feels like this could easily be a series. Even a duology or a trilogy, like Fable (Adrienne Young). Csilla herself was set up to be SUCH a cool character, with the blind eye? But we are given a simple answer and moved on....I really thought she would have some powers of her own. I want to know more about Lorelai and her feelings from Limbo, and see her use her powers and see how the new crown plays out and.....I just have a lot of questions.

Overall, this was an entertaining story about pirates and the fight for the crown. It felt a bit predictable at times (ie. the double cross and also who would wear the crown), but I still enjoyed the story as a whole and I am left wanting more. I am happy that this book crossed my path!
