First the cover… the cover screams of everything we love about a good fantasy novel. One look and you know picking up this book you’re in for a glorious escape into another world, with other gods and, grand adventure.

This starts off with high impact action. A girl is going to be hung for piracy. The rope drops and suddenly as she awaits death she instead meets the ground in a crumpling heap. Her rescue has come and how empowering that the team that is there to rescue her is all female! Her sister and the twins make a dramatic show for this getaway. Racing through the streets they end at a cliff where the pirate who turned Csilla in catches up to then to let them know, this is the last time they will hear or see Captain Flynn.

We the meet Kane in the fighting pit. And the action only keeps going with each blow. The way the author writes makes you feel like a spectator at this match and it’s glorious.

The king is dead and Kane seems to have his eyes on the bone crown. But so does everyone else.

Definitely a story I would devour in one sitting even if that meant I neglected everything else just to reach the end.
