I really liked this, though I did feel it was a bit lacking. We open on 16 year old Emsy and barely get to know her before her entire life is abruptly uprooted and she is moved across the country from her friends and girlfriend. One of the families of her parents' Coven has been brutally murdered and they need her mother back to take over where that family left off.

We do see her struggling to deal with this sudden change in surroundings while also trying to make new friends and navigate this new unknown. Fellow covenmates Ben and Ash seem to be her only way points in this mess, until Ben asks her to help bring his family back from the dead. Emsy hesitates, agrees, and finds herself in the middle of something so much bigger than either of them could have ever imagined.

In the end, it was the girl who approached Emsy on her first day, Kellsey, who was behind it all. I figured this out earlier than I think I was supposed to, so the final reveal was lacking because of this. Overall, I felt like the character development wasn't great, I wasn't super happy about the way the authors went about the queer rep (why does it always seem that the lesbians suffer but the gays get their happy endings? Let the girls have their happily ever after as well, dang it), and I felt like it ended too quickly and more could have been said or explained to give more depth to the characters and their stories.
