Loved this story!
I have not read a Wilbur Smith book before. This book is co-written with David Churchill. While Courtney’s War is part of a series, it is definitely a stand alone book. World War II Fiction is my genre of choice. Courtney’s War is a saga of Saffron Courtney and Gerard von Meerbach. In love before the war, When the war starts Saffron works as a British Operations Executive. She is desperately trying to find the spy who is giving information to the Germans. Gerard is a pilot in the Lutwaffe and is a witness to Jewish atrocities. He did not like Jewish hatred before the war. He helped his family’s Jewish lawyer escape to Switzerland before the war started. Seeing first-hand the atrocities of the Jewish people. Gerard is caught while being part of an anti-Hitler conspiracy and is a prisoner at Dachau.
The reader is caught up in this dilemma and all the emotions are there throughout the book.
