I absolutely love history books - Even when they are not totally true to real life, I feel like I learn a lot from reading historical novels and understand more of life at the time! I was given the chance to read this book before it was published and I'm grateful for the opportunity - I really enjoyed this story! Set in Paris in 1939 Saffron Courtney and Gerhard von Meerbach are torn apart by the war, living thousands of miles away and struggling. He feels like there's only a small chance of survival where he and his unit have been sent.
The characters were relatable and I found myself immersed in the storyline, routing for their success. It was well written and easy to get in to which can be a struggle with some historical stories.
