This was a very fun World War Two spy thriller, though told from a unique perspective ... that of an accomplished female spy. Saffron (on the Allied side) and Gerhardt (on the German side ... of course) are in a relationship before the war starts. They end up on opposite sides, trying to be loyal to both each other and the countries they are fighting for. Neither supports to Nazi regime, but both are told that the other is gone, missing or dead until they see other in the middle of the war. As they struggle for country, they also struggle to live long enough to see each other again. The constant struggle is whether to sacrifice their lives for the cause they believe in or play it safe, maybe lose the war but live. A tantalizing tale.
