Before we begin I have to say I had no idea this was a series let alone the 17th book in the series! I don't think reading the series beforehand was necessary because the book stood alone just fine. I enjoyed this well thought out and informative tale of World War II. As someone who doesn't delve into historical fiction as much as she should I found the story was easy to follow along and the writing was great and easy to read. In this book we follow Saffron Courtney who I felt was engaging and I enjoyed following her intense adventure as shes recruited by the Special Operations Executive and her lover Gerhard as they test their love and hope to find each other again. I would definitely recommend this for people who are just starting out reading historical fiction and I might even start back at the first book in the series, When the Lion Feeds.
