I am a huge fan of the Courtney series by Wilbur Smith. Yet this one felt plodding and hard to get into. It took about 10 tries for me to really get into the book. Then around page 100, I could NOT put the book down.
I felt that the writing was good, the scenes ok, the characters were a bit wooden. The other thing that was lagging, and I am not sure if this will be addressed in another book, there was character threads that were NOT neatly tied up by the end of the book.
Overall, another great story in the Courtney franchise. I can't wait to see what will happen next to the Courtney women.
I think that anyone interested in historical fiction will like and appreciate this stand alone book. Just don't look too deeply into the plot.
