Surprisingly, this was my first J. R. Ward book! She's been on my radar for yearrrrs and I just have not gotten around to picking up a Brotherhood book. It also took me a few years to read and review this book that I won! Oops! But I'm glad I finally read it. It was on fire (pun intended)! I really enjoyed this book and wasn't expecting how deep it actually was. It wasn't just firefighter porn, which is all I thought it was going to be. Anne and Danny, and all of the secondary characters, are deeply flawed, broken people trying to pick up the pieces of their lives after tragic events. Giving the main character a disability was a fascinating choice and it worked really well. It made Anne stronger and made me fight more. Danny started out broken and then broke even further. It was a surprisingly dark story but had some steamy spots which Ward really did justice to. I really enjoyed this book.
