Main character, Anne Ashburn, is a kick-ass firefighter who must confront a life-changing event that also causes her to have to change her career to arson investigation and solve a mystery. I love how J.R. Ward has made Anne such a strong female character, both physically and emotionally, yet also wasn't afraid to let her have a soft side. This is not a typical read for me, and I did enjoy how the story started out immediately with some high suspense/action, it really pulled me in! I also enjoyed the relationship between Anne and her co-worker, Danny, and the instant chemistry you felt between them.

Even though it was a wonderfully fast-moving storyline, I have to say that I had difficulty at times getting into the story due to all of the analogies that were constantly used to describe things (ex. Her hand was the bad-luck hole-in-one in the middle of the tiddlywinks from hell.) and it just wore me out after awhile. I also found it hard to follow all of the firefighter "jargon" and had to re-read sections in order to really understand what was happening.

With all of that being said, I really do admire how much research Ward put into this book and how realistic it all seemed. It is definitely a great action, romance, and mystery novel wrapped up in a fast read!
