Consumed by JR Ward is the first book in her new contemporary romance Firefighters series.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book. The only JR Ward books I have to compare are the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, which are phenomenal and hard to replicate their awesomeness. While Consumed didn’t grab and pull me in like the Black Dagger books did, I did enjoy reading Consumed. Did I love it? No, but I liked it a lot. The reason its not a five star read for me is the beginning I was utterly confused with the multiple perspectives. The chapters aren’t titled with whose POV you are reading and it wasn’t until about a quarter of the way through before I was able to identify who was speaking. I know this book is setting up the future of the series and I assume each future book will be dedicated to each firefighter in the firehouse, but throughout this book there is a lot of characters mentioned without a lot of detail so they are very much periphery characters. The Black Dagger books also did this same thing with its characters but I felt like you got to know them a little better before you got to their dedicated book.

JR Ward is such an awesome writer and you can tell she did her research in this book (or she was already expert at firefighters). I love the detail she provided with the equipment, procedures, and investigation that goes along with fighting fires. I wasn’t really feeling hot lightening bolt chemistry between Anne and Danny but I also didn’t read the three novellas prior to reading this book where I think you get a better feel of their relationship with each other. I’m looking forward to reading those now and I am also excited to learn more about Danny’s best friend and fellow firefighter Moose. I think it’s recommended you read those 3 novellas before starting Consumed.
