I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this book. (This was my first J.R. Ward read) I had a hard time with the writing style at first, there was a lot of slang and lingo and incomplete sentences that grated on my nerves a bit but then I got into the story and that kind of fell by the wayside. Those first few chapters were very intense! I didn’t think I would be so into the story or that it would be quite that hard to put the book down, but it was. The best way to describe the story would be: Backdraft meets Chicago Fire. There was a lot of firefighter comradery and levity but there was also a lot of real-life issues that were dealt with, then add in the splashes of drama and romance and you’ve got a pretty compelling story. Overall I really found myself enjoying the book more than I thought I would and I would definitely recommend this to anybody wanting a fast-paced read.
