I am a huge JR Ward fan. She seems to be able to create characters that are so real that you forget they are fictional. I was shocked and appalled that she maims the main character so early in the book. The injury that Anne sustains is sudden and severe and puts her and Danny's life on a very different path than either expected. I really appreciated how the recovery of these two characters follows a natural path. There is no 'love cures all' insta-fix. This is messy and honest and beautiful. It is clear that a lot of research and care went into the writing and I loved the level of detail that JR Ward utilizes in describing the fire fighting aspect. There is a mystery to be solved, a bad guy to be found, and a family to be brought back together. This was way more than a romance and the action really pulls you in right to the end.
