Consumed is a romance thriller that centers around Anne Ashburn (who has a REALLY ironic name), who is a firefighter. She comes from a family of firefighters and there is nothing she would rather being doing, so what if she doesn't follow every single rule? No biggie right?
Nope.
After Anne suffers an accident, she has to reorganize her who life, including deciding where Danny McGuire fits into it. Basically, this book is burning hot in all the ways.
I really love the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. So when I found out about this series, I was really excited. The thing is...Black Dagger Brotherhood really runs on me loving all the guys. I sorta didn't have that here. I wasn't able to get invested in these characters even though I liked them well enough. I really liked that this novel felt pretty original in its plot and it wasn't overly filled with one trope after another. The plot had me guess, but I wasn't fully investing into WHY I should care. The characters weren't charming, funny, or very compelling at all. On more than one occasion, I stopped and wondered to myself as to why I was reading this book.
Overall, it's a pretty decent book, but it wasn't very interesting. I wasn't even intrigued by the romance because I didn't feel any real chemistry between the two characters. It was clear that there was something tying them together, but it felt too flat to be called love.
This all makes it sound as if this book was awful. This is not the case, the ending of it really held promise that perhaps some of the other characters in future books will be more inviting. I will still read the rest of the series, because I have a lot of hope left for this author. I just wish she would take ore risks or have more internal conflict within and between characters. Everything seemed pretty surface level.
