This books was not what I expected and I mean that in the best way possible. I expected a few fires, but mostly romance and I love that I was wrong. Anne is such a badass but also let's herself cry. And while Danny is definitely an alpha male, he doesn't fit the stereotype that I usually hate. He respects Anne's decisions and knows that she can take care of herself. I also love the this book had Danny going to therapy. When we think about firefighters, we usually think about tough guys who don't express their emotions very easily, and while that is somewhat true here as well, that is only when Danny is not in his best frame of mind. He goes to therapy when he is trying to get his life back and track and I love the example that sets.

The complex characters, the twists (I did not expect that person to be the arsonist!), and the plot were all so well-developed and so much fun to read. It was really hard to put this one down. I also loved Anne's whole investigative process, her relationship with her new boss, and her dog (the best!).

Anne definitely had some obstacles ahead of her after she couldn't be a firefighter anymore and it was so great to see her recovery process. We don't get to see that a lot in books and it is something that a lot of people go through and can relate to.

Consumed by JR Ward is a brilliantly told, thoroughly researched story of struggling firefighters and people getting second chances and I highly recommend it.
