When I picked up Consumed, I knew that I would likely enjoy it. I'm a sucker for romance, and I'm especially a sucker for romantic suspense.
This book was so much more than that. Consumed is about a firefighter named Anne that experiences a terrible injury while fighting a fire and can no longer do what she loves best. Danny, who was with her when she was injured, blames himself, and they both effectively cut themselves off from each other in their self-blame.
Consumed is an incredible story about how they find their way back to each other while trying to determine who is setting several lethal fires across the city.
This was one of those books that I picked up and then did not put down until I had finished. Did I guess who the arsonist was? Yes, eventually, but that doesn't take away from everything else that happened throughout the story. It was fast-paced and heartwarming and steamy and exciting, all at once.
J.R. Ward definitely surprised me with this, as I'm a huge fan of her Black Dagger Brotherhood series, and was excited when I learned about her new contemporary adult romance series about firefighters. What a great start to a new series!
