When I read the first couple of pages, I was not sure that I was going to be interested in this story, and mentally I got hung up on a sentence with " [her date] had showed up". The copy editor/ proof reader part of me thought, no, this should be 'had shown.' However, most people won't even notice that and maybe the tough female firefighter should be thinking in slightly off-kilter grammar anyway. However, I am now suspicious about who hit her in the head; I am not certain that it is the drug addict squatter. So, I hope to read more!
