This excerpt ended in the EXACT spot it needed to in order to make me frantic to read the book. The main character, Anne, a female firefighter on a crew of male coworkers (and whose father was also a firefighter) is on the scene at an active warehouse fire. Dispatched with another firefighter to check a part of the building (supposedly far from the active fire) for people, she runs into...difficulty. I won't say what, but that ending had me practically screaming to find out what was going to happen next.
