A slow read

It started off strong and I really liked the first few chapters. You knew something was going to happen and from the story could predict what but still left me looking forward to the event. Unfortunately it left me wanting. I grew bored and found myself disliking the main character more and more. While he started out arrogant and annoying, he seemed to be learning from his past. The more I read the more obvious it became he was becoming worse and worse. The ending was disappointing but seemed to stay true to reality. The epilogue was wonderful calling out the main character on all his flaws and pointing out what the world at large will overlook if you are the majority.

The pace of the book was very slow and never seems to pick out pace. Even when descending into madness there never seems to be a change in the writing. It seems commonplace and while it's obvious the main character has no idea he has gone mad its quite obvious to the reader, making it feel disjointed.
