I will preface this review by saying I do not have a great baseline familiarity with Greek and Roman myths. So, I had the same problem with this as I had with Daughter of Sparta. It was a freaking SLOG to get through because I don't know much background of these characters and the book itself just doesn't have the time to fill me in. It WAS well written, and I think it is a fantastic story. I just had a really hard time getting into and enjoying it because I felt halfway lost the entire time. Because there is a base knowledge required going in, some plot points felt very half-formed and it felt like so many things happened that I was only partly able to understand. So at the same time it was wildly underwhelming because I felt like I missed half the story. If you enjoyed Game of Thrones, a good morally gray MC, and have a decent understanding already of Greek and Roman mythology I am sure you will enjoy this one. It just wasn't for me.
