Clytemnestra is a feminist retelling of the princess of Sparta, sister of Helen, and wife to Agamemnon who murdered her husband and infant son. Clytemnestra had suffered so much and this story is about her decision to take back her life and power and vengeance. This story is not one I had heard about prior to reading this book and I think it’s the result of the male gods being written about—often in such heroic light. This story developed Clytemnestra’s life by giving us a new perspective with so much dimension and depth and layers. The heroin here was assertive, strong, and powerful and it still remains so refreshing to see female characters written in this way. She was a character I was rooting for from the start and continued to want her to get the revenge she deserved despite the amount of violence. I thought the anger was justified and handled with the brutality we see and expect from male Greek heroes. This was a fantastic read and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys Greek retellings.
