Another Great Retelling

Casati did an excellent job bringing Clytemnestra's story to life. She's a memorable character in Greek mythology and even more so in this novel. I loved being able to see her thoughts as she calculated the best course of action. It made me much more sorry for her since she goes through so much tragedy. If you weren't already sympathetic for Clytemnestra before reading this novel, you definitely will be by the end. Seeing her love and lose people in her life made her feel so real.

I really liked following Clytemnestra's life from childhood into adulthood. It allows a reader to really see why she is the she is, and it also gives insight into how Casati imagines other Greek myths and figures. This is a hefty book, so you're in for a bit of a long read. It did feel a bit slow at times, but nothing terrible. I'm not sure how I feel about where Casati decided to end the novel. A part of me would have loved to know what goes on in Clytemnestra's mind when she dies, but another part wants to enjoy the idea that the novel ends when she is finally at peace because she deserves to be left remembered in that way.

This was a great read!
