Clytemnestra expands on the story of a character in Greek mythology who deserved her side of the story to be told. Sister to the infamous Helen of Troy, wife of the ruthless and heartless King of Mycenae, and daughter of Sparta. From her time as a young girl growing up and protecting Helen during their childhood in Sparta to the time of her husband's murder, Clytemnestra experienced more pain and suffering than any mother or wife deserves to carry in their heart.

I felt the author did a great job channeling the writing style of the old Greek myths. Though I see many other reviewers comparing this to Circe by Madeline Miller, I think it more comparable to The Song of Achilles by the same author. Mostly because the books are written from a POV of characters who were involved with the battle of Troy that were more background characters in the original stories. Clytemnestra gives the reader an array of emotions while growing with the main character throughout the book. I also liked how the author somewhat left this book open ended as I was hoping she wouldn't change the ending of the original story of Clytemnestra as told in The Oresteia, by Aeschylus.
