Clytemnestra by Costanza Casati is historical fiction set in Ancient Greece. From the outset it seems like this book might refocus a myth to give the woman a voice; the first line is, "There is no peace for a woman with ambition." The text begins with main character Clytemnestra alone in a forest, where as a child she saw elders throw both men and babies into the gorge to die.

I don't often read historical fiction, but I am a big fan of feminist themes. I'll be curious whether friends enjoy this one and might just have to pick it up myself!

The cover reminds me of a playing card, as it depicts an almost symmetrical image on a plain black background. At the top the bust has a crown whereas at the bottom, its crownless. The top of the image also seems to have buds while the bottom looks more like full holly berries. Ionic columns line either side of the image.
