This book was a page-turner. Cilka’s story is both sad and powerful. Cilka is a young girl that becomes a prisoner for many years and she has learned to survive. She is selfless and manages to protect the people around her, which sometimes got her in trouble. She has incredible control over her emotions, which is what has kept her alive. She manages to build lasting friendships and she is given the opportunity to work as a nurse. The ending was nice and liberating.
I think Heather Morris did a good job conveying this story. She portrayed Cilka as a strong and brave woman who learned her way around concentration camps and prisons. Which kept her alive. I really liked this book. The narrative was nice and they flow of the story was effective. I did see some typos and confusions but they did not harm the story in any way.
