Cilka caught my attention in the Tattooist of Auschwitz, the girl who kept her hair, and like many others we had so many questions about her. I am so happy we were given Cilka’s Journey to answer some of those, even if the answers were sometimes hard to read.

This author's writing style is elementary and somewhat choppy to me, not generally what I enjoy. However, the stories she chooses to tell and the research behind this book ( although it is a work of fiction, simply BASED on a true person and story) are remarkable.

Everything Cilka has to endure in order to simply survive at Auschwitz was horrific. Then she was punished for actions that were literally unavoidable and sent to a Siberian work camp immediately after the war and forced to endure even more atrocities.

That Cilka was so incredibly strong and positive throughout the story is inspiration pure and simple.
