I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was beautifully written and heartbreaking. The novel centers around Cilka who is only 16 when she is taken to the concentration camp. Unfortunately, she draws the attention of a Nazi officer. Once the war is over and the camp is liberated Cilka is actually charged as a conspirator because of her forced relationship with the Nazi officer. She is sent to a Siberian prisoner camp. Luckily, there she meets a caring and compassionate female doctor. She forces a bond and relationship with the doctor who not only helps her but teachers her how to care for patients. With a kind friend and a new purpose Cilka begins to heal from her horrible suffering. This book is a must read for historical fiction fans and I will be recommending it.
