I really enjoyed Cilka's Journey by Heather Morris. It is based on a true story about a young lady named Cilka Klein. After spending time in a concentration camp, the Russians sentenced her to 15 years in the gulag for "sleeping with the enemy" even though it wasn't her choice. During the time she spends in prison, she reveals her true character by the selflessness she displays and the kindness she shows others.

The prose wasn't ornately flowery or anything like that, but the story was compelling nevertheless. Even though it is related to the book "The Tattooist of Auschwitz," you don't have to read it to enjoy this book. I haven't read it yet and still enjoyed the book. A lot of people, after escaping from the concentration camps, experienced difficult times even after they re-entered society. I like how this story recounts the story of at least one person and the difficulties she experienced. There are a lot of stories like this, and if we don't write them down now, they may be lost to history and reside only in our imaginations.
