I read this right after reading The Tattooist of Auschwitz. Thank you to Bookish-first for the ARC. The cover alone is breathtaking. The first novel was on my to read list and you guided me to read that sooner than expected.
We meet Cilka in the tattooist and what a heart breaking story.
This was hard to put down, but at the same time I needed an emotional break. Knowing that many people went through what Cilka had endured is heart wrenching. Beautifully written. I have read numerous novels set in this era and during the Holocaust and it never gets easy. I feel reading this is a way of respect for those we lost and those that survived.

One small caveat.. I did not like how first and last names were always used in the dialogue...
