I knew from the moment I finished the "First Look" (aka the first 20 pages of the book) that I was hooked and had to know more about this poor girl's journey. Set in World War II, the story follows Cilka as she embarkes on a path that will lead to many decisions and a lifelong knowledge. She must grow up fast as she is thrust into the woes of war.

Cilka's Journey is the perfect example of a classic historical fiction novel that is almost always based on some truth. Historical fiction is my favorite type of book category because it contains so much truth behind each and every story, no matter if the characters are fabricated or not. While this isn't based on a true story, as is the Tattooist of Aushwitz, this book allows one to feel as if they were present during this time period and experience what Cilka, and so many others, had to endure.
