I know that Heather Morris and both of her books are surrounded by controversies. The author is being accused of taking liberties with historical facts and undermining some facts. But isn't it the same that every writer of historical fiction does? Don't they all take some historical fact or a real person and write a fictional story around them? Don't they all change things, settings, characters and such in order to tell the story? If they weren't doing it, then they would be writing a non-fiction history book.
I loved reading "Cilka's Journey". I have read multiple books about GULAG labor camps (both fiction and non-fiction), however, all of them were about male prisoners. Women were mentioned in passing (if mentioned at all) and sometimes I forget that there were female camps there as well. I am grateful for Heather Morris to reminding me about that and I already started researching for more books on the subject (and that's exactly what good stories do - they give you a glimpse on a subject and send you on your journey to learn more)
