Another wonderful novel by Heather Morris. After reading the Tattooist of Auschwitz, I had to read the second novel, telling more of the life of Cilka. Although not all of this novel is historically accurate, Heather Morris did tremendous amounts of research to provide readers with as much of Cilka's story as she could.
This book is heartbreaking to know that this actually happened to people, not once, but twice. Cilka found herself locked up in a concentration camp while only a teenager, while there she was used for her body by soldiers and guards in exchange for more food, nicer things, and a better job in the camp. Although this might look like favoritism to the other prisoners, Cilka did not have a choice in the matter and did what she needed to survive. After the prisoners were freed and the camps shut down she finally feels like she can move on, only to find herself arrested and being charged for aiding the German soldiers. She is sent to another prison and feels like she is doomed to repeat the same horrible things she just escaped from.
She really was such a strong person, to go through so much at such a young age, but surviving.
