This book follows young Cilka after the end of the Nazi internment camps. Cilka was seen as a collaborator in the camp due to the role she held and the fact that she was used by the Nazi officers. Because of this she is faced with a second stint in a work camp, this time in Siberia.
She has survived the Nazis and her time in Auschwitz-Birkenau but now must face being seen as an enemy of her people and serve her 15 year sentence for doing what she thought she had to to survive as just a teen in a concentration camp. She must also deal with the memories from her last camp and try to survive in this new place.
She finds a purpose in her new camp that helps her keep moving forward despite all she has seen and been through.
This book is very emotional and definitely a powerful read. It will break your heart and give you hope at the same time. You do not have to have read Tattooist of Auschwitz to enjoy this book but that is another amazing book to check out in your reading journey.
